As Saharの2008年5thアルバム"Tir"をSex Desire Recordsより再発！

大名作でありながら、2008年のCDでのリリース以降2020年にテープで再発されたのみでほとんど出回っていなかったこのアルバムは、ゾロアスター教の英雄である射手Arashの神話をテーマとしており、"Tir"とはペルシャ語で矢の意味である。

最初の3曲は組曲編成となっており、1stアルバム以降の路線を踏襲しつつもさらに深化した激しくも情熱的な旋律や、曲構成で引きこまれる。

彼らは元々音楽的ポテンシャルがとても高く、どんな音楽でもできただろう。それはギターの素晴らしい旋律やハーモニー、時折織り込まれるピアノやシンセで遺憾無く発揮されているのがわかるが、ブックレットの見開きページに掲載したナイフを持ったメンバー写真の矢で射るよう眼光の鋭さで、やはりこの人たちはBLACK METALでしか生きていけないのだと痛感させれる。

BLACK METALは世界中で同時多発的に起こったムーブメントであり、テープトレードを介して互いに影響を与えつつ各地で個性的な音楽が創られていったことは当レーベルの作品をチェックしている人には周知の事実だと思う。

87年に前進バンドEthosとして活動を始めた彼らも一つのオリジネイターである。BurzumやRotting Christ、日本のOhura Mazdoなど様々なバンドと交流しつつ、完全にAs Saharにしか出せないサウンドを確立しているし、彼らが創り上げ次世代に影響を与え続けてきたであろうシンガポール／マレーシアのBLACK METALは欧米とは全く違う旋律があり、それは日本のものとも異なっている。

ますます均一化が進むBLACK METALシーンの中で、今も自分の音で戦い続ける彼らの軌跡を再発できて光栄に思う。

As Sahar's 2008 5th album Tir reissued on Sex Desire Records!

A true masterpiece that, despite its stature, had seen only a tape reissue in 2020 since its original CD release in 2008 and had remained largely out of circulation. The album is themed around the mythology of Arash, the archer hero of Zoroastrianism — and Tir means "arrow" in Persian.

The first three tracks form a suite, following the path laid by the debut album while pushing further into deeply intense yet passionate melodies and song structures that draw the listener in completely.

Their musical potential was always extraordinarily high — they could have played any genre they chose. This is evident in the superb guitar melodies and harmonies, and the occasional piano and synth woven throughout. And yet, one look at the photo of the members holding knives in the booklet spread — eyes sharp as arrows — and you feel it viscerally: these people could only ever live through BLACK METAL.

BLACK METAL was a movement that erupted simultaneously across the world. Through tape trading, bands influenced one another while each region developed its own distinctive sound — something anyone who has followed this label's releases will know well.

AS SAHAR, who began their journey in 1987 under the predecessor band Ethos, are themselves one of the originators. Through exchanges with bands such as Burzum, Rotting Christ, and Japan's Ohura Mazdo, they forged a sound that is entirely and unmistakably their own. The Singapore/Malaysia BLACK METAL they built — and which has continued to influence the next generation — carries melodies completely unlike those of Europe or America, and equally distinct from those of Japan.

In an increasingly homogenized BLACK METAL scene, we are honored to reissue the legacy of those who continue to fight on their own terms, in their own sound.
